The 1983 Derby Eve Gala held by Governor John Y. Brown Jr. and First Lady Phyllis George Brown  included many notable attendees. Pictured from left to right: Hillary Rodham Clinton, an unidentified guest, Gov. John Y. Brown Jr., Ivana Trump, Donald Trump, and Rosalynn Carter.  Other attendees included then-Vice President George H. W. Bush, Barbara Bush, former President Jimmy Carter, and then-Governor of Arkansas Bill Clinton.  Over 500 people were said to be in attendance.

The event was held at the Governor’s mansion in Frankfort, and began with a formal dinner held in a large tent behind the mansion, followed by dancing in the ballroom that went on until 1am. It was reportedly the Brown’s first night staying in the mansion, as it had been closed previously for major renovations.
